We currently offer two homelessness prevention programs:
Emergency Solutions (ESG) is funded by
HUD through a City Development Block Grant. It allows us to provide some rent and utility assistance on a short-term emergency basis.
Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Rehousing (HPRP) is funded with a grant from
HUD administered by
JCCEO (Jefferson County Committee for Equal Opportunity).
To be eligible for HPRP assistance, you must:
1) be homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
2) have recently lost a job due to the economic recession
3) live in Birmingham City limits
4) meet the low-income requirement for your family size

Homelessness Management Information Systems (HMIS) Continuum of Care
Urban Ministry also participates in the HMIS Continuum of Care System in partnership with
One Roof Alabama. By offering these state-sponsored photo IDs to our clients, we allow them to access other important social services including healthcare, food stamps, housing programs, and more.
