Old, young and in-between; male and female, families and singles. These are some of the folks who eat lunch at the Community Kitchen of Urban Ministry, Inc. They come for reasons such as: being disabled, Senior Citizens on fixed-incomes; working at low-income jobs; children out of school; unemployment and more.

The poverty rate in the State of Alabama is 16%. In the West End Community where Urban Ministry, Inc. is located the poverty rate is three times the state rate. The Community Kitchen helps low and very low-income persons stretch their financial resources just a bit further than they might otherwise be able to. Urban Ministry, Inc. is very pleased that in the twenty-six year history of Urban Ministry, Inc. every person who has ever come to our Community Kitchen for a meal has been served.
